Soho, Vauxhall and the rest of the scene
Soho and Vauxhall are the two names to know. Soho, around Old Compton Street, is the busy, central one, with the Admiral Duncan among its long-standing pubs. Vauxhall, south of the river, has been the city's other queer district since the 1990s, anchored by the Royal Vauxhall Tavern: open since 1863 and listed in 2014 for its place in LGBT history. Either makes an easy first drink.
Summer brings the two big marches: Pride in London, usually late June or early July, and London Trans+ Pride, which marches in July. A quiet table before the crowds is the easier place for a first conversation.

Tate Modern's collection costs nothing to see, and it gives you something to talk about straight away. Afterwards, take a walk along the river. Busy, public and easy to leave: just right for meeting someone from a site for the first time.
A drink somewhere you both feel at ease
Soho and Vauxhall are the easy choices for a relaxed first drink. If you would both rather keep a low profile, pick a quiet hotel bar near a mainline station, so either of you can be on a train home within minutes.

Two national organisations are based in London. Gendered Intelligence, a charity, works with trans and gender-questioning people and their families across the UK, and Galop runs the national helpline for LGBT+ people facing abuse or violence. The NHS adult Gender Identity Clinic is at the Tavistock Centre in north London and takes referrals from across the country.
